When I first got into Rec Therapy I had no clue what it was and the more I learned the more I knew I was in the right field, I love the things Rec Therapy has to offer. I love knowing I can work with any population, and make programs and groups adaptive to the population that I’m working with.
I came to Hinds’ Feet Farm with my Interventions class. I knew right away this was where I wanted to be for my internship. This population is different from others, they have to relearn everything and some never get everything back fully. I love hearing their stories about how they got their brain injuries, I love knowing they beat the odds and are walking miracles. I have enjoyed my time here at HFF!
I love this group and seeing them everyday. One of my favorite groups to talk about is our first week we did candle making, the other RT intern and I were in the kitchen assisting the members in making their candles we had hot wax everywhere moving candles that weren’t dried yet all over the place we got burned and a member laughing at us, and us laughing at ourselves. It was such a hot mess, but the members liked it and what can I say I enjoyed it also, just laughing at each other was worth getting burned by the wax.
I learn something new everyday and everyday brings something new, you never know what the day is going to hold. We’ve had good days and bad days, but no matter what happened the day before I still wake up wanting to come here and be with them. I put all my internship eggs into the HFF basket because I truly knew this is where I belonged and thank goodness I did because it all worked out. I get to not only work alongside a silly and competitive group of members, but I get to work with great staff, and the other RT intern, everyone has been great. I look forward to what we have planned for groups in April but not looking forward to saying goodbye to this place I have come to know and love.
